Affordable Motors, a BMW dealer in Brooklyn, is excited about all the new technology that is coming out and BMW’s new laser headlights are no exception. BMW recently announced that they plan to unveil new lighting technology within the next two to three years that will revolutionize how drivers see the road.
According to BMW the new headlight will use highly concentrated beams of light to light up dark roads. Hanafi Abdul, an Optical Systems Designer for BMW, recently broke the news of the new headlight system. Abdul said that BMW has a system that uses a photonic process to generate white light and that it is currently ready for production ,but that it is currently waiting for the proper application in BMW vehicles. BMW enthusiasts may have already heard of this technology and seen it in BMW’s i8 Concept Vehicle, which is set to hit the market sometime in 2013. Abdul said that this headlight technology could actually appear in dealerships before BMW’s concept vehicle reaches production lines, which is anticipated for sometime in 2013.
The laser headlight process contains Gallium Nitride which generates blue light, which is then transformed to white light via a phosphor disc. You may be asking yourself why a laser headlight is desirable over traditional headlights, and let me tell you the answer is simple. BMW has stated that the new system is 1,000 times brighter and 100 times smaller than traditional LED lighting, oh yeah and also twice as efficient. I guess this whole laser system has said enough. The state-of-the-art headlight system is believed to have a life span, on average, of around 10,000 hours. Where do I sign up?
