This year’s Pied Piper study composed of 3,524 paid secret shoppers, all of which were anonymously selected, that stopped into dealerships nationwide, suggests the automotive industry’s performance dropped from last year.

It is believed that customer service slipped because sales-men/women are not bringing up such things as maintenance programs and costs that are correlated with the maintenance. Along with that, the secret shoppers also took away that salespeople are also less likely to address specific features and benefits that would benefit each individual shopper. The secret shoppers found that this year sales-people were more likely to offer information regarding why consumers should buy a vehicle now, as well as asking consumers what and also what was holding buyers back from purchasing a vehicle.

Not surprisingly luxury brands , like Mercedes-Benz, fared much better than other domestic brands.  It is believed that this is due to larger commissions, per sale, for sales-people. Also there is higher profitability as well per vehicle.
