Hyundai Implements Brake Override System to Ensure Driver Safety
Hyundai recently announced its plans to implement brake override systems for all of its vehicles, which will offer additional safety in the event of unintentional acceleration. The automaker originally employed the system in only half of its vehicles; however, Hyundai felt it was necessary to provide the system in its entire lineup. Our team at Affordable Motors, a leading Hyundai dealer in Brooklyn, NY, is curious to see the safety improvements made with the brake override systems.
The brake override system was designed to engage when it detected a significant increase in driver speed. The system stops the vehicle in order to prevent crashes caused by unintentional acceleration. Sensors within the system’s technology detect if the gas and brake pedals are pressed simultaneously, and the system acts to safely decrease vehicle speed.
Hyundai announced that the system makes it possible to eliminate ‘throttle malfunctions,’ and ‘increasing engine power’ will be impossible when the brakes are engaged. The technology was originally implemented to avoid complications similar to Toyota’s expansive recalls in both 2009 and 2010. Many automakers are taking cues from Hyundai by adding their own override systems to their vehicle lineups.
As a result of Hyundai’s innovation, even the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has started preparing a proposal that would require all new vehicles to be outfitted with the brake override technology. So far, BMW, Chrysler, Toyota, General Motors and Mazda have all implanted, or continue to implement, the use of the override technology. The fail-safe braking system should increase driver safety and increase the amount of brake failure-related accidents.
At Affordable Motors, we are always looking to find additional ways to keep our valued drivers and their passengers safe. We pride ourselves on the ability to provide safe and innovative used Hyundai in Brooklyn, NY. For further updates on the automaker’s brake override systems, contact our dealership today.
