Affordable Motors, a Nissan dealer in Brooklyn, is excited about Nissan’s next-generation Nissan Altima. The mid-size sedan is set to be the first Nissan vehicle outfitted with their first-ever, in-house developed, front-wheel-drive hybrid driving system. The hybrid setup, which is set for release in 2013, will be replacing the Toyota-based system that Nissan has used in years passed for their Nissan Altima Hybrid model.
Nissan also got some inspiration from Infiniti as well. It is believed that Nissan’s forthcoming gas-electric configuration will be somewhat inspired by the hybrid system found in the 2012 Infiniti M35h. If this holds true, the next-generation Altima will feature a two-clutch, single-motor, lithium-ion battery setup, not a bad way to start for Nissan. Although the Infiniti M35h comes loaded with a3.5-liter V6, the people at Nissan decided to power the Altima Hybrid with a Super-Charged 2.5-liter four-cylinder Powerplant, fused to a new, state-of-the-art X-Tronic continuously variable transmission.
All of these features and specifications were revealed during a test drive at Nissan’s Oppama proving grounds in Japan. Yasuoka refused to comment on which Nissan model would get the newly developed hybrid system, but all signs seem to point that the Altima is destined for this role.
